This week's Veronica Mars proved that this season is just getting better and better. In an episode where Veronica is particularly persnickety, her attitude seems pretty justified. What reasonable person wouldn't be suspicious if their significant other had a night so shady they refused to talk about it, but insisted that you "trust them"? Even without Veronica's trust issues, that's a stretch. Logan should know better - he may have put on his good boy cap lately, but he hasn't always been so worthy of V's trust.
Speaking of trust, how heartbreaking was her disappointed conversation with her dad, where she informed him that she "used to" have someone who was an example of a man who wouldn't let her down? Ouch. Keith, being a standup guy, decided to learn from his daughter's disappointment and break up with his married girlfriend.
But the last few minutes were where the episode really hit its stride. A careless few seconds of leaving her soda unattended and Veronica is stumbling, drugged, back to her car. Being smart, she managed to hit the panic button and set off her car alarm as she collapsed, and Logan (who was out looking for her) managed to come to the rescue, yet again - just in the nick of time, it would appear, as her attacker had already removed a patch of her hair. Eeep.
What really got to me was as she came to with Keith and Logan hovering over her. No matter what trust issues or disappointment have been flying around, it's obvious how much both of these very different men love Veronica, and it was nice to hear her acknowledging and appreciating it at the end.
On a lighter note: Vinnie was just awesome and hilarious as usual, first blackmailing Keith and then saving (and scolding) Veronica at the River Styx. And not to be nitpicky, but can we PLEASE get some more substantial Wallace? Or any Mac, Weevil or Backup? I'm really grateful for all the Sheriff Lamb we've been getting, and Piz is growing on me, but I miss these guys. And I know they're only contracted for a certain number of episodes for the season, but if they're being saved for later episodes and we don't get a full season... well, that will just suck.
That said, I'm really excited to see how this mystery plays out, although I really wish the CW promo people would stop making it seem like Veronica and Logan are breaking up every single damn week. If there's actually real trouble in paradise, sure, use that in the promo, but at this point it just feels like they're crying wolf, and it's getting irritating. Have a little respect for the intelligence of your audience.
