With finals finally over, it's time to concentrate on what's really important in May: season (and in some cases series) finales. So here's my wishlist for some of this month's season-enders (air dates in parentheses):
I finally got around to watching this week's Grey's Anatomy, and I am so glad I did. This may have been my favorite episode of the season so far.
Thursday nights are offering me a lot of new shipping possibilities. Betty and Henry on Ugly Betty, Ryan and Taylor on the OC... these are some potentially very cute/hot couples, and I, for one, am enjoying watching all those flying sparks.
I know, I know, it's still a week until Thanksgiving, but I don't think it's too early of a list of things I'm thankful for - especially when it was triggered by the FABULOUSNESS of #1.
Wow, Thursday nights are getting crowded. The OC returned for its fourth season - in a slot that pits it against Grey's and CSI, two of the top-rated shows of any night, as well as other "teen" shows like Supernatural. And, unfortunately for those of us who were hoping we could just stop watching (aka me), The OC is good again. Like, really good. This premiere was up there with very best episodes of the last few years, and even arguably on the level of Season 1 OC (aka really good). Everyone is dealing with Marissa's death in their own way - Ryan by being dark and angsty and, well, cage-fighting, Julie by popping pills and alternating between trying to keep herself busy and lying in bed all day, Summer by turning into a hippie...
Meredith gets drugged, Izzie gets $8.7 million and Callie gets to rebound with McSteamy. Quite an episode of Grey's.
Grey's was back to its best last night - both McDreamy and Finn made their cases to Meredith, and she, for once, made an emotionally stable decision and decided to date them both before choosing. But much more compelling were the storylines of the supporting cast: Izzie, who baked an overwhelming amount of muffins to deal with Denny's death; Alex, who spent his time pestering Bailey to talk to Izzie and fulfilling a dying patient's fantasy; Christina, who had to deal with Burke's opinionated and not-entirely-approving mother; and, of course, George and Callie, who shared some great chemistry as he dealt with jealousy over thinking the panties on the Lost and Found board were hers. And then there was Addison, who took the day off "to drink" and ended her evening with the very sexy McSteamy. Who, of course, Derek saw when he came to apologize for sleeping with Meredith, effectively ending their marriage, at last. (But hopefully not ejecting the talented and compelling Kate Walsh from the show). But the most poignant moment of the episode came when Bailey finally DID visit Izzie, took part of the blame for Denny's death, asked her to come back to the hospital, and, finally, got her to stop baking. Heartstrings effectively pulled.
Fall is here, and with it comes a brand-spankin new season of TV. Two of ABC's megahits, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives, have had their premieres in the past few days -- Grey's felt a little underdramatic after last season's huge finale, but boasted a few good moments and some rays of hope in the previews, while Desperate Housewives stepped it way up from a lackluster second season to bring in a decent premiere that hopefully bodes good things to come.
